The Core Knowledge Pre-School Curriculum

The Core Knowledge Pre-School Sequence is "a set of model guidelines describing fundamental competencies and specific knowledge that, for children from three to five years of age, can provide a solid, coherent foundation for later learning in Kindergarten and beyond."

Owned and established by the Care Knowledge Foundation, the explicit expectations of the program allow disadvantaged children, like all children, to be exposed to a coherent core of challenging, interesting competencies and knowledge. The program not only provides a foundation for learning, but also makes up the common ground for communication in a diverse society.

Core Knowledge emphasizes the students' extreme need to stop, think and make good choices and decisions - not only in school but also in home situations. The program offers a "Lending Library", where students and parents are allowed to check books out on a regular basis. This method encourages parent interaction and reading in the home.

The Core Knowledge Pre-School Sequence is intended to guide the planning of experience and activities for pre-school children by offering progression of skills and knowledge in the following areas: physical well-being and motor development, social and emotional development, approaches to learning, language and knowledge acquisition and cognitive development.
